This is a beautiful and heavy pair of sterling silver mounted claret jugs.
The ornate silver mounts have a foliate design around a shield or possibly a two-handled cup, which on one side is clear, giving an empty cartouche. The handles are unusual, being art deco-style and squared, and are firmly attached.
The hallmarks are to the side and base of the mounts and are clearly for Birmingham 1887, with the maker''s mark of Barker Brothers.
The hinges on the lids are in excellent condition and the lids have lovely fleur-de-lys finials. There are partial hallmarks inside the lids.
The spouts are decorated on each side with two leaves and a small bunch of grapes,
The glass body is a tapering, oval shape with beautiful design and star cut to base. The glass is in perfect condition, with no cracks or chips.
Dimensions:
Height: 28cm (including finial)
