London 1887 Cased Set of 12 Solid Silver Gilt Spoons with Sugar Tongs by Aldwinckle and Slater.

Description

London 1887 wonderful set of 12 solid English hallmarked silver coffee spoons and matching sugar tongs in original very striking fitted case.

The spoons and tongs have spiral twist stems with cast apostle terminals to both top and bottom (very unusual), and rat tailed bowls with pale traces of original gilding.

Retailed by Taylor and Langford of Bristol, and made by John Aldwinckle and Thomas Slater, of the firm Holland, Aldwinckle and Slater, important makers who also supplied firms such as Elkington, Mappin and Webb, and Hunt and Roskell with their silver wares. Such firms only sold the best silver.

Spoon size is approximately 4.5 inches long.

Total weight of silver 165 grams.

This is a beautiful complete service in original fitted case, in excellent condition.

We have many other individual and sets of spoons in inventory, so please contact us with your requirements.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
