Birmingham 1967 Solid Silver Quaich, Bowl or Porringer, by Very Famous Maker Elkington and Co.

Description

Birmingham 1967 English hallmarked solid silver bowl or porringer or quaich with handles by Elkington and Co, one of the finest silver makers.

The quaich is a Scottish drinking vessel totally unique to Scotland. It was used to give a guest both a cup of welcome, and also for farewell. The drink was usually a dram of whisky. It was also used to give the piper a drink at a wedding.

Very heavy, 160 grams, thick gauged silver. Beautifully crafted curved bowl on circular foot, with shaped handles.

Size 5.5 inches wide including handles by 2.25 inches high. Bowl alone, 3.5 inches diameter.

Wonderful and symbolic gift for a wedding or Christening. Very functional to use for sauces or custard. A very versatile piece.

Unusual to find in solid silver

In excellent condition, and very stylish.
