Description

These fabulous crescent shaped biscuit barrel's don't come along very often, and this one is one of the finest we have had and by one of the finest English silversmith's, Martin Hall & Co.

What makes this even more special (and which I have never come across before) is the very cleverly designed (removable) lids which when lifted and slotted into position, stay up; they can the then be pulled slightly to release and closed when desired. Both lids are beautifully engraved.

The heavy crystal is beautifully hand-cut and in perfect condition. The glass is fitted into a circular base which in turn stands on it's original four bun feet. The underside is where the makers mark is M H & Co into a shield and EPNS for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver.

Martin Hall & Co. was one of the best known British manufacturers and participated in many international exhibitions including the Crystal Palace 1851 Great Exhibition in London.

Dating to around 1870, this is a fine, fine piece in superb condition.
