Sheffield 1944 Solid Silver Pierced Wonderful Quality Comport or Grape and Cheese Dish on Pedestal.

Description

Unusual Sheffield 1944 English hallmarked solid silver unusual grape and cheese dish or comport or dessert stand, having chased and applied undulating edges of grape bunches and vines, with a star shaped solid centre. The centre is then surrounded by a beautifully pierced border, again of of leaves and bunches of grapes.

Made by Stower and Wragg.

Quite heavy, with a very thick gauge, and of excellent quality, this is a lovely piece on which to serve grapes, fruit or dessert. For example, several cheeses can be placed onto the solid centre while the grapes can line and drape the pierced perimeter. A truly stunning and impressive presentation on sideboard or dining table.

Weight-very heavy at 700 grams or 22.5 troy ounces!

Size-10.75 inches diameter by 2.25 inches high.

In very good condition, this very special piece would make a beautiful and functional gift, as well as a prudent investment.

Several pairs of very complementary solid silver grape scissors are also available to coordinate with this if desired. Search listings under grape scissors.
