This “Lovely Georgian Silver Caddy Spoon with Rare Hallmark” found a buyer.

It was listed by Jeff Sims Antiques. Sold pieces stay on Sellingantiques as a record of what has passed through, and the next one is rarely far away.

Description

A most attractive Georgian silver caddy spoon, with an unusual squared terminal. The handle has delightful stipple engraving and a cartouche with script initials and the bowl is shell design.

This interesting example is a good collector's piece as it bears a rather unusual hallmark, struck for a short and very specific period. The mark is for 6th July 1797 to 28th May 1798 and is defined by the duty mark (Monarch's head) being in a shaped 'artist palette' border and not the usual oval.

Condition :- Excellent, with no dents or splits.

Hallmarks :- Duty mark, Sterling Lion, date letter. Maker's marks soft but readable.

Maker :- James Beattie.

Bowl width :- 4 cms.

Overall length :- 7.75 cms.

Date of Manufacture

Jeff Sims Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
