Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian period writing bureau is made from rich brown mahogany with boxwood crossbanded inlay framing the slant front lid and drawer fronts. The piece features a fall-down front above four graduated long drawers fitted with brass swan-neck drop handles and escutcheons, raised on bracket feet. The wood displays a warm polished timber grain, showing visible tonal variations across the sloping fall front and drawer panels. Practical for daily use, this desk serves as a compact writing station or display surface in a study, living room or bedroom. The interior houses a fitted writing surface and secret pull-out compartments, while the exterior provides generous storage within the four lower drawers. Measuring 99 cm high, 89 cm wide and 48 cm deep, it integrates well into traditional and period-style domestic interiors.

FAQs

A Georgian writing bureau is a 18th-century piece of furniture featuring a sloping drop-front lid that opens to reveal a writing surface and small drawers, supported by a lower chest of drawers.

18th-century bureaus were typically constructed using solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcases, often accented with boxwood stringing and cast brass swan-neck handles.

Authentic Georgian bureaus feature hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints, hand-planed back panels, natural wood shrinkage over time, and period-appropriate cast brass hardware with steel screws.

A Georgian bureau works as a compact home office solution in a living room, study, or hallway, offering both functional storage and traditional architectural interest when paired with neutral contemporary decor.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying beeswax every six months. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent wood warping.
