Striking Antique English Mother of Pearl, Abalone & Sterling Silver Card Case

Description

Dating to around 1860/1880, this charming Victorian card case is in pristine condition.

The case is covered in Mother of Pearl of Nacre shell with it's attractive iridescent qualities being showcased by it's glossy patina. The centre of the the front panel is beautifully decorated with engraving and Abalone shell surrounding the sterling silver lozenge in the centre, engraved with the original decorative monogram.

The push button allows the case to be opened, the hinges in perfect working order; the interior reveals a totally original lining with a concertinaed liner to hold visiting cards (or today, business cards). The edges of the interior are all lined in Ivory.

Superb condition, measuring 4 1/4" x 3 1/2".
