Description

A fabulous tropical design has been engraved on this antique English biscuit box, probably made for one of the British colonies and reflecting the exotic surroundings.

The engravings include a plethora of palm trees and tropical plants; the integral tray is trimmed in a more traditional English beading and standing on three ball and claw feet.

The top is crowned with a cast vignette of a Rum barrel, straw hat and a Sickle, again reflecting the British Empire roots.

There is a figural English makers mark on the underside, which I am unable to identify (A shield incorporating an anchor, below a crown) and marked "Warranted Hardsoldered".

Excellent quality and condition, dating to the Victorian era, around 1880; the integral tray has a diameter measuring 7 1/4" and standing 7 3/4" tall to top of finial.
