Sheffield 1921 Solid Silver and Mother of Pearl Fruit Knife.

Description

Birmingham 1921 English hallmarked solid silver and mother of pearl full sized fruit knife made by George Howson of the very well known firm of Harrison Brothers and Howson.

Originally these knives were made to be transportable, to be kept in the pocket and used to peel and cut fruit. Now, they also make a very nice pocket or pen knife.

Both sides of the case are covered with lustrous mother of pearl. There is a blank shaped cartouche on one side suitable for personalisation if desired.

The blade is solid silver. Such blades were mainly made in a precious metal to protect them from the corrosion of fruit juices and other corrosives.

Size-3 3/8 inches long closed, by .75 inches wide.

5.75 inches long open.

Weight-28 grams.

The sprung hinge is strong, and there is no damage to the mother of pearl. With just a very slight turn up of the tip of the blade, this is in very good condition overall.

A very functional and attractive antique piece for the gentleman, or a great gift for a boy.
