Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The case is made from a heavy gauge of English sterling silver with very stylish engine turned decoration, with an engraved border and a very Victorian belt and buckle central cartouche to the centre on the front panel.

The case retains the original bone aide memoir note panel, and the silver propelling pencil, which does require some lead.
The silver has a crisp English silver hallmark for Birmingham 1869 together with the makers initials FM for the silversmith, Frederick Marson. The case also has the highly desirable Queen Victoria's Head duty mark.
Excellent condition, measuring 3 3/4" x 2 3/4".
