London 1908 Superb Solid Silver and Tortoiseshell Jewellery Box by Famed Maker William Comyns.

Description

Exceptional London 1908 English hallmarked solid silver and tortoiseshell oval jewellery box with applied leafy ribbon border and standing on 4 beautifully engraved feet. The hinged lid contains a wonderful central oval tortoiseshell plaque with a silver pique inlaid design of garlands, ribbons, sunburst and musical trophies. The colours of the shell vary from dark to blonde. The interior is lined in the original velvet. The exterior base is covered in the original leather.

Made by famous and collectable maker William Comyns, renowned for such items.

Size-2.25 inches long by 1.75 inches wide by 1.25 inches high.

Weight-50 grams.

A stunning and perfectly formed Edwardian period piece for the dressing table which also makes a wonderful and romantic gift.

This is one of his nicer examples, and perfect for jewellery, trinkets or rings.

In very good condition with very clear hallmarks, superior craftsmanship and wonderful colour.
