Stunning George IV Period Very Large and Heavy London 1823/24 Solid Silver Master Salt and Spoon Made by Samuel Wheatley.

Description

Very impressive London 1823/24 George IV period English hallmarked solid silver master salt with cast foliate rim, the body embossed with rocaille work and flowers, with original gilt interior, on three cast silver very detailed lion mask and claw feet, together with a double struck matching salt spoon with shell to bowl heel.

Both pieces have a matching engraved stag family crest.

The detail, large size and heavy weight is amazing. It was beautifully crafted by Samuel Wheatley.

Size: salt-4 inches diameter by 2 3/8 inches high: spoon- 4.5 inches long by 1 3/16 inches wide.

Weight-310 grams total. (275 grams salt, 35 grams spoon)

A really striking salt and spoon for the dining table centre, or a wonderful gift. With very good age, crisp decoration and hallmarks, and in very good condition.

It is unusual to get a salt of this size and quality, and with its matching spoon.

Just gorgeous.
