Serpentine Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Now, they also make a very nice pocket knife.

Both sides of the case are covered with mother of pearl, with each side carved in a beautiful foliate design. The blade is solid silver. Such blades were mainly made in a precious metal to protect them from the corrosion of fruit juices and other corrosives.

Size-2.25 inches long closed or 3 7/8 inches long open, by .5 inches wide closed.
Weight-10 grams.
The blade snaps open and closed on its sprung hinge properly.
With just a small age hairline near the heel on the reverse, this is in very good condition overall.
A great gift for anyone, and a very nice and collectable piece.
