This cabinet plate originates from the late nineteenth century in the Rococo Revival style, produced in hard-paste porcelain with a white glaze and extensive gilt detailing. The surface displays hand-painted polychrome enamel decoration featuring a central panel of exotic birds within a landscape, surrounded by a pierced reticulated lattice border. Three shaped cartouches inset into the rim contain further painted bird vignettes, all accented by gilded scalloped edges and fine scrollwork. Visible condition markers include rubbing to the gilding and minor losses to the foot rim. The plate measures 24 cm deep. Today, this piece serves primarily as a decorative display object suited for a sideboard top or within a glass cabinet in a dining room or drawing room setting. It rests securely upon a small gold-coloured metal stand to showcase the intricate openwork lattice and the detailed ornithological artwork from all angles.

A reticulated porcelain plate features an openwork or lattice-like rim, created by cutting geometric pierced patterns into the clay prior to firing. Popularised by European manufacturers such as Meissen during the 18th and 19th centuries, these decorative pieces were designed primarily for display rather than utility.

Meissen porcelain is crafted from hard-paste porcelain, composed of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, fired at high temperatures to achieve a dense, white body. Decorative elements are applied via hand-painted overglaze enamelling and detailed gilding along the pierced borders and central motifs.

Authentic late 19th-century Meissen porcelain typically features the underglaze blue crossed swords factory mark on the reverse. Additionally, original items exhibit precise hand-painted details, high-quality gilding, sharp pierced lattice work, and incised or impressed model numbers near the mark.

Displaying a reticulated porcelain plate on a brass easel or mounted inside an acrylic shadow box adds historic detail to modern shelving, mantelpieces, or sideboards. Grouping decorative plates into a wall gallery provides texture and tonal contrast within modern dining spaces or living rooms.

Dust reticulated porcelain regularly with a soft, dry brush to clean intricate piercings without causing abrasion. Avoid immersing gilded or overglaze painted ceramics in water or using harsh detergents; clean gently using a damp microfibre cloth if necessary.
