Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Italian Florentine table lamp dates from the 1920 period. Constructed from gilded metal and wood, the piece displays an antique gold finish with a visible aged patina across the surface. The construction incorporates five arms shaped as foliate leaves, petal bobeches beneath candle-effect bulb sockets, and a turned circular base. Additional visible details include twisted wiring, an inline switch on the white cord, and textured leaf decoration on the central stem and branches. The lamp measures 54 cm high, 41 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Placed in a residential interior, the piece functions effectively on a sideboard top or side table to provide atmospheric accent lighting within a living room or hallway setting.

FAQs

Florentine lighting originated in Florence, Italy, gaining widespread popularity throughout the mid-twentieth century. Drawing design cues from Renaissance and Rococo metalwork, artisans crafted lighting decorated with hand-gilded leaves, scrolling branches, and candle-style fittings.

These lamps are typically constructed from wrought iron or pressed sheet metal painted or gilded with gold leaf finish. The bases are often crafted from turned wood or weighted metal, while the bulb sockets are encasings styled as dripping wax candles.

Authentic pieces feature hand-applied gold leaf or metallic gilt paint showing subtle wear, oxidation, or natural patination in the crevices. Construction involves individual stamped or forged metal leaves soldered to central stems rather than single cast pieces.

A Florentine lamp provides strong visual texture when placed on a minimalist sideboard, console table, or dark wood desk. The metallic finish and sculptural silhouette contrast effectively against neutral walls or modern minimalist furniture.

Dust gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or soft-bristled brush to clean the foliage and bobeches. Avoid water, alcohol, or chemical solvents, as moisture can strip gold leaf finishes and corrode the underlying iron framework.
