This George II period kneehole desk dates from around 1750 and is built in solid mahogany with a warm brown colour and original finish. The rectangular top sits above a full-width long top drawer over a recessed central kneehole cupboard flanked by six smaller drawers, three on each side. The drawers have brass swan-neck handles, brass escutcheons, and visible dovetail construction, while the central cupboard door is secured with brass H-hinges and comes with a working original key adorned with a white tassel. The piece stands on bracket feet and displays a shaped apron above the kneehole recess. Practical for everyday use in a study or home office, the desk provides a traditional writing surface alongside multiple storage compartments for stationery and small items. Measuring 79 cm wide, 81 cm high, and 47 cm deep, it suits compact spaces while maintaining the formal presence of Georgian furniture. The timber exhibits a rich grain and deep patination acquired over centuries of careful ownership, offering an authentic period addition to a traditional interior.

Originating in the early 18th century during the Georgian era, a kneehole desk is a compact writing or dressing table featuring a central recessed cavity flanked by banks of drawers, often incorporating a small central cupboard.

Furniture from the George II period was predominantly crafted from dense Cuban mahogany, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, and cast brass handles with keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-sawn tool marks on structural undersides, irregular hand-cut dovetail joints, original iron or brass locks, natural timber shrinkage across solid boards, and aged brass hardware showing mild oxidisation.

In contemporary spaces, a Georgian kneehole desk functions as a compact home office workstation, a hallway console table, or a bedroom dressing table, paired with modern task lighting to complement the deep timber grain.

Maintain antique mahogany by applying beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain with a microfibre cloth, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources, and avoiding harsh liquid chemical cleaners.
