Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Georgian mahogany writing desk stands on bracket feet and has solid brass batwing backplates with bale handles on all seven drawers, alongside brass keyhole escutchets. The rich, warm timber shows a mellow colour and an aged patina across the polished top surface and the central cupboard door below a small shallow drawer. Internally, the construction uses oak secondary wood. Measuring 79 cm high, 48 cm wide and 83 cm deep, this pedestal desk fits comfortably into a study, home office or traditional living room as a functional writing station with ample storage space. The arrangement of side drawers and central kneehole cupboard provides practical organisation for correspondence and daily paperwork.

FAQs

A Georgian kneehole desk is an 18th-century writing cabinet designed with a full-length top drawer above a central recessed cupboard, flanked by two vertical stacks of drawers.

These desks were typically constructed using solid mahogany or dense wood veneers, featuring hand-carved pine secondary timbers and cast brass drop handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joinery, original brass plate handles, structural bracket feet, and natural timber shrinkage or surface oxidisation consistent with 18th-century craftsmanship.

Place the desk within a dedicated study, home library, or formal entrance hall, pairing the dark mahogany wood with neutral wall tones and focused brass task lighting.

Dust the surface using a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish annually, ensuring the furniture remains positioned away from direct sunlight and central heating radiators.
