Edwardian 15ct Gold Blue Topaz & Old Cut Diamond Lavalier Necklace – Antique Circa 1910

1900 - 1920
Description

A beautifully elegant Edwardian blue topaz and diamond necklace, finely crafted in 15ct gold and platinum and dating to circa 1910.

The delicate fine curb-link chain leads to two slender knife-edge gold bars forming an elegant V-shaped centre, from which a long articulated drop is suspended.

Two graduated old-cut diamonds, each finely milgrain set in platinum, lead to a wonderfully coloured oval-cut blue topaz below. The topaz displays an attractive strong blue colour and is held within a delicate four-claw gold setting, allowing the stone plenty of light and movement.

The articulated construction gives the pendant a graceful fluidity when worn, while the combination of warm 15ct gold, white platinum, old-cut diamonds and vivid blue topaz is particularly characteristic of fine jewellery from the early 20th century.

An elegant and very wearable Edwardian necklace, sufficiently delicate for daytime wear yet with enough colour and sparkle for evening or special occasions.

This Edwardian lavalier necklace dates to circa 1910 and is made from 15ct yellow gold and platinum. The design incorporates a delicate curb-link chain, two slender knife-edge gold bars forming a V-shaped centre, a vertical articulated drop, two graduated old-cut diamonds in millegrain bezel settings, and a faceted oval-cut blue topaz gemstone in a four-claw mount. The piece displays a grey background, pale blue highlights on the stones, and a high polished metal finish. The pendant drop measures 3.5 cm and the chain length measures 40 cm. This necklace is worn around the neck and suits formal evening wear, special occasions, or elegant daytime attire. The warm yellow gold combines with white platinum settings and vivid blue and white gemstone tones to create a classic early 20th-century aesthetic.

A lavalier necklace features a pendant suspended from a chain, terminating in a secondary hanging gemstone or motif drop. Popular during the Edwardian era between 1901 and 1910, these designs emphasize delicate linear balance, light-reflecting gemstone settings, and vertical drops.

Edwardian jewellery frequently utilized 15ct gold or platinum, allowing jewelers to create fine, lightweight settings. Colored gemstones including blue topaz, aquamarine, amethyst, and seed pearls were commonly paired with old cut diamonds.

Authentic Edwardian jewellery often bears historical British purity stamps such as 15ct or .625, a gold standard retired in 1932. Design features like hand-applied millegrain edging, delicate bar connectors, and old European or mine cut diamonds also signify period origin.

A lavalier necklace creates a refined vertical focal point suitable for V-neck collars, open blouses, and evening wear. For interior styling, fine antique jewellery is often arranged on velvet vanity trays or within glass trinket cases.

Store antique jewellery in a fabric-lined box away from direct light and moisture to prevent abrasive contact. Clean using warm water, mild detergent, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding chemical immersion or ultrasonic cleaning units.
