We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

Popularised during the nineteenth century, fire fenders were designed to sit around the base of an open hearth to contain burning coals, embers, and ash, preventing damage to surrounding flooring while adding decorative ornamentation.

Nineteenth-century fenders were predominantly constructed from heavy cast iron, forged wrought iron, polished steel, and brass, often combining dark ironwork with highlighted brass feet or finials.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically exhibit crisp casting marks, heavy weight, original hand-finished joinery, and natural surface patination or mild surface oxidisation rather than modern uniform powder coating.

Position the fender neatly around the hearth in a formal reception room or library, paired with traditional fire irons and a tiled or stone fireplace surround to create a defined focal point.

Clean the cast iron with a soft brush and apply black grate polish to preserve the dark finish, while brass details should be dusted regularly and gently cleaned with dedicated metal polish to maintain their lustre.
