This nineteenth-century neoclassical wall plaque consists of cast iron with painted details in dark grey, white, and muted tones. The piece takes an oval form surrounded by a beaded border, topped with a ribbon bow crest at the top, and depicts a classical female figure in relief holding a water pitcher and a platter. Signs of age include surface wear and chipping to the polychrome paint. It measures 51 cm high, 32 cm wide, and 2 cm deep. Placed on a narrow wall space in a living room, hallway, or study, this plaque brings historical character to an interior. The iron construction allows for secure wall hanging using appropriate hardware.

Cast iron wall plaques became popular during the 19th century as durable decorative arts, often featuring Neoclassical motifs inspired by ancient Greek and Roman iconography or allegorical figures.

These decorative items were created using molten cast iron poured into detailed molds, frequently finished with paint or lacquer to highlight architectural details and protect the surface from oxidisation.

Authentic period pieces typically exhibit casting seam marks, natural age-related surface patina, crisp hand-detailed molding, and residual layers of historical mineral-based paint.

Position the plaque on a textured wall, such as exposed brick or lime-washed plaster, or integrate it into a curated gallery wall above a console table for structural visual contrast.

Dust the relief gently using a dry, soft-bristled brush, keep the metal entirely dry to prevent moisture damage, and avoid chemical cleansers that could strip original polychrome finishes.
