This Regency period chest of drawers brings timeless style to a modern bedroom or living space, offering generous storage on top of four graduated drawers. The piece displays a rich warm brown timber finish and stands upon splayed bracket feet, accented throughout by brass oval backplate handles and keyhole escutcheons. Practical proportions measure 89 cm high, 93 cm wide, and 50 cm deep. Traditional construction shows clean lines and subtle moulding along the top surface, framing the tiered drawer configuration. Placed against a wall in a hallway or study, the chest provides a sturdy surface for lamps or ornaments while keeping everyday items neatly stored away.

FAQs

Regency furniture, produced in Britain between approximately 1811 and 1830, is characterised by classical Greek, Roman, and Egyptian influences, clean lines, balanced proportions, and rich mahogany or rosewood veneers.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era predominantly used imported West Indian or Cuban mahogany, often accented with brass ring or oval backplate handles, oak or pine drawer linings, and hand-cut dovetail joinery.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints inside the drawers, original brass ironmongery showing minor patination, and smooth, natural wear along the drawer runners and base feet.

An antique chest of drawers functions well as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Modern styling involves pairing the rich wood tones with neutral wall colours, contemporary artwork, or minimalist ceramics to balance historical charm with modern warmth.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber, and place the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying or discolouration.
