This 1920 Queen Anne Revival chest of drawers is constructed from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and finished with brass batwing handles. The small piece stands on four cabriole legs featuring shell-carved knees and pad feet, supporting a tall body that contains four stacked drawers to the front. Measuring 41.5 cm wide, 34 cm deep, and 78 cm high, the compact dimensions suit smaller spaces. In a contemporary home, the compact chest functions effectively in a bedroom as a bedside cabinet, in a hallway for small items, or in a living space to add practical storage. The traditional design integrates smoothly into an English Country House interior scheme, providing surface space and accessible drawers while maintaining a traditional aesthetic.

FAQs

Queen Anne Revival furniture emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, drawing design inspiration from 18th-century English furniture. Key features include slender cabriole legs, pad feet, carved shell motifs, and rich wood veneers such as mahogany and walnut.

These pieces generally feature mahogany solids and veneers laid over secondary framing timbers such as oak or pine. Traditional construction includes dovetailed drawer joints, carved leg knees, and cast brass drop handles.

Authentic pieces display dovetail joinery within the drawer construction, original cast brass hardware with natural surface oxidation, and carved timber details integrated directly into the leg frame.

A compact mahogany tallboy can be incorporated into a modern bedroom, hallway, or dressing space as an accent piece. Pairing darker timber grain with muted wall tones and contemporary lighting creates a balanced scheme.

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying natural beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep furniture away from direct heat sources and intense sunlight to prevent timber movement or fading.
