This small early 19th-century Regency chest of drawers is constructed from golden-brown satinwood with contrasting dark string inlay. The piece is finished with a cross-banded hinged top that encloses an internal compartment, positioned above three graduated drawers. Each drawer is fitted with circular brass drop-ring handles and central keyhole escutcheons, set within a rectangular frame. The cabinet rests on bracket feet beneath a shaped apron. The visible timber grain shows natural variations in tone across the front and top surfaces. Measuring 82 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 46 cm deep, the compact proportions suit placement in a hallway, bedroom, or living space as a decorative storage unit. The top surface provides display space for lamps or small decorative objects, while the graduated drawers offer practical organisation for smaller items in a modern interior setting.

Regency furniture, dating from roughly 1811 to 1830, is characterised by classical proportions, clean architectural lines, and the use of rich timbers such as satinwood, rosewood, and mahogany. Design elements often incorporate fine string inlay, brass accents, and neoclassically inspired forms.

Pieces from this era typically feature solid oak or pine secondary woods with fine decorative timber veneers on top. Construction methods include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, brass ring or knob handles, and hand-cast iron or brass lock mechanisms.

Authentic pieces display signs of historical craftsmanship, such as irregular hand-cut dovetails, pine or oak drawer linings, original brass escutcheons, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Look for subtle wear around handle mountings and authentic patination on the wood surface.

A small chest works effectively as a bedside table, hallway storage, or a focal accent piece in a living space. Contrast the historic timber tone by positioning modern table lamps or contemporary framed artwork directly above or on top of the cabinet.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and avoid placing timber furniture in direct sunlight or near heat sources to prevent cracking. Apply a high-quality clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the natural grain to maintain the timber finish.
