Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian freestanding desk or dressing table takes the form of a kidney-shaped workstation fashioned from mahogany with a warm brown timber colour and a leather inlay on the top surface. The design incorporates cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet, elaborate foliate relief carvings across the drawer fronts and kneehole brackets, and round brass knob handles. Measuring 75.5 cm high, 122 cm wide, and 67.2 cm deep, the piece offers a versatile writing surface or dressing table setup suitable for placement in a gentleman's library or study. In a modern interior, this freestanding item sits centrally in a room to provide a dedicated workspace or personal vanity area. The arrangement of five drawers supplies practical storage for stationery or cosmetics, while the finished back allows complete visibility from any angle. The traditional styling integrates into a period or eclectic home office, study, or bedroom where a compact yet functional writing desk or dressing table is required.

FAQs

Edwardian kidney-shaped desks feature a curved, ergonomic front designed to wrap slightly around the seated user. Popularised in the early 20th century, these pieces often incorporate refined relief carving, quality timber veneers, and gilded leather writing surfaces.

High-grade timbers such as mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood were commonly used during the Edwardian era. Writing surfaces often feature tooling on hide leather inserts, accompanied by brass handles and dovetail-jointed drawer construction.

Authentic Edwardian desks typically exhibit hand-carved foliate details, natural hand-cut drawer dovetails, polished mahogany rear panels designed for central room placement, and period-appropriate cast brass fittings.

Because kidney desks are finished on all sides, place them in the centre of a home office or study facing the entrance. Pair the warm mahogany wood with modern minimalist seating or subtle metallic accents to create an eclectic contrast.

Keep mahogany furniture away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent timber shrinkage. Clean the wood with natural beeswax polish using a soft cloth, and treat the leather insert with specialist leather balm.
