This Edwardian double stamp box combines sterling silver and clear cut glass in a rectangular Neo-classical design. The piece stands 3.2 cm high, 7.1 cm wide and 5 cm deep. The body has gently sloping, bevelled panels with heavily cut geometric patterns, and the interior contains two divided compartments. The silver lid displays a repousse rural scene with cherub figures and a smooth central panel, edged with a scalloped border and stamped with clear hallmarks along the front edge. Suitable for an office desk or gentleman's library, the heavy glass construction permits dual function as a paperweight alongside its original purpose for holding stamps. The structure shows no dents, splits, chips or cracks.

An Edwardian silver stamp box is a specialized desk accessory produced during the reign of King Edward VII (19011910), designed specifically to hold adhesive postage stamps. Typically featuring sterling silver lids and cut glass or wooden bases, these boxes often contained sloped interior compartments for easy stamp retrieval.

These boxes were constructed with a thick lead crystal base that was hand-cut with geometric patterns, topped by a sterling silver lid created via embossing or repousse metalworking techniques. The silver mount was fitted precisely to the rim of the glass base to ensure smooth closure and protection of the contents.

Authentic pieces feature official British assay office hallmarks on the silver lid or rim, indicating the purity mark, makers mark, town mark, and date letter corresponding to the Edwardian period. The glass bases often show hand-cut faceting rather than modern moulded seams.

An antique silver stamp box functions well as a decorative desk item in a home office or study, placed atop stacked books or alongside writing instruments. It can also serve as a small jewellery receptacle on a dressing table or bedside nightstand.

Clean the silver elements using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and a specialized silver polish, avoiding contact with the glass to prevent residue build-up. The cut glass base can be wiped carefully with a damp microfiber cloth and dried thoroughly.
