Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century Georgian chest of drawers is made from warm brown fruitwood with a two-plank top and a moulded edge. The piece has two short drawers above three long graduated drawers, fitted with later brass swan-neck handles and keyhole escutcheons, and stands on the original shaped bracket feet. The timber exhibits a rich grain and even tone across the drawer fronts and frame. Measuring 97 cm high, 95 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the unit provides generous storage capacity. This practical storage item sits easily in a bedroom, dressing room, or hallway as a traditional chest of drawers. The proportions allow it to function well against a wall while holding folded clothing, linens, or everyday items in the deep lower drawers and smaller top compartments.

FAQs

Georgian fruitwood furniture is characterised by the use of native European fruitwoods such as apple, pear, or cherry, which were favoured for their fine grain, warm colour, and tactile finish during the eighteenth century.

Chests of drawers from this era feature hand-cut dovetail joints, solid timber drawer linings, hand-cast brass handles with backplates, and robust bracket feet.

Authentic pieces display signs of natural timber shrinkage, age-related wear around handles and lock escutcheons, hand-planed backboards, and original cast brass hardware.

A period chest of drawers functions well as a focal storage piece in a hallway, dressing room, or bedroom, contrasted against contemporary artwork or neutral textured walls.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain humidity balance and protect the original patina.
