Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Georgian chests of drawers are renowned for their symmetrical proportions, high-quality timber such as mahogany, and refined cabinetmaking techniques. Common features include graduating drawer depths, hand-cut dovetail joints, bracket feet, and decorative brass hardware.

The primary timber during the Georgian era was solid or veneered mahogany, valued for its durability and rich grain. Secondary timbers used for drawer linings and internal frames typically included oak, pine, or deal, accompanied by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic Georgian chests display hand-sawn drawer linings, uneven hand-cut dovetails, original backboards, and period-appropriate wear around keyholes and base rails. Cast brass handles often show natural oxidisation and hand-chased details.

A Georgian mahogany chest serves as a grounding focal point when positioned in a contemporary hallway, bedroom, or living area. Contrast its warm wood tones with modern abstract art above the piece, framed by sleek ceramic or metal table lamps.

Keep the wood hydrated and protected by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain with a soft cloth. Avoid placing the furniture in direct sunlight or adjacent to radiators to prevent timber shrinkage and finish degradation.
