This writing desk originates from 1930 and follows the Art Deco style, produced by Bath Cabinet Makers. The construction incorporates walnut, satinwood, and bone inlay, displaying a warm amber brown colour with chevron parquetry across the drawer fronts. Fine line inlay defines the geometric layout, while octagonal drawer pulls with silvered mounts and turquoise stringing accent the upper section. The body stands on slender tapered legs linked by a low rectangular stretcher rail, terminating in dark-toned feet. Dimensions measure 76.5 cm high, 106.7 cm wide, and 53 cm deep. Position this piece within a study or home office setting to function as a compact writing or display surface. The restrained proportions allow placement against a living room wall or within an entrance hallway as a decorative console. The restored waxed finish protects the timber while preserving the grain patterns and original hardware details across the front facade.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture is characterised by geometric patterns, exotic wood veneers, fine marquetry, and clean structural lines that bridge classical craftsmanship with modern design.

Craftsmen typically utilised figured timber veneers such as walnut, satinwood, and mahogany, often accented with bone, mother-of-pearl, or silvered line inlays.

Authentic pieces frequently feature maker stamps or metal plaques, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and precise geometric parquetry or marquetry detailing.

Position the desk against a neutral backdrop alongside an understated modern desk lamp, allowing the geometric drawer fronts and wood grain to act as the primary visual focus.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting, and apply a natural beeswax polish periodically with a soft cloth.
