This Victorian gentleman's library pocket watch chain dates from 1890 and consists of a heavy sterling silver curb link chain, a T-bar fastener, a swivel clasp, and a large engraved shield fob. The piece uses sterling silver and rose gold materials with silver and rose gold colours, finished with a rose gold wash detail on the fob and lion silver marks on each graduated link. Visible details include an engraved shield fob with rose gold accents, a 4 mm scratch on the shield, and hallmarks on the clasp. The chain measures 30 cm long including the T-bar and the clasp, with links up to 11 mm wide, while the fob measures 38 mm wide and 46 mm high with a total weight of 83 g. This accessory serves as a collectable antique item for display in a gentleman's library or study cabinet.

Named after Prince Albert, an Albert chain is a decorative secure chain used to attach a pocket watch to a waistcoat or jacket buttonhole, featuring a T-bar and swivel clasp.

Antique watch chains were predominantly crafted from sterling silver, hallmarked gold, rolled gold, or pinchbeck, often featuring decorative fobs accented with gold inlay or gemstone seals.

Authentic pieces typically bear British hallmarks on individual links, the T-bar, and the swivel clasp, alongside makers marks and date letters indicating the assay office and year of manufacture.

Beyond traditional waistcoat wear, these chains are frequently repurposed as contemporary statement necklaces, wrapped bracelets, or decorative additions to modern jacket lapels.

Clean gently using a soft silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish, avoiding harsh chemical dips that could strip intentional oxidisation or damage delicate gold overlay detailing.
