A 1920 double wardrobe is constructed from burr walnut with a warm brown walnut veneer and a waxed finish. The piece displays an Art Deco style, featuring an arched cornice above twin doors with a crossbanded edge, original brass drop handles, and turned feet. The interior includes a hanging rail on the left and a shelf with a rail underneath on the right, and the structure separates for ease of movement. The wardrobe measures 188 cm high, 124 cm wide, and 53.5 cm deep. This freestanding storage item suits a bedroom or dressing room setting in a contemporary home, offering hanging and shelved space for clothing. The timber displays natural grain patterns and patination across the double doors. The cabinet stands upright on four short supports on a smooth surface.

A 1920s burr walnut double wardrobe is a twin-door freestanding storage cabinet characterized by figured wood veneers derived from walnut tree burls. These pieces often exhibit Queen Anne Revival or early Art Deco influences, featuring gently arched cornices and turned pad feet.

Cabinetmakers during this period typically applied thin slices of highly figured burr walnut veneer over solid timber substrates like pine or mahogany. Construction features include hand-fitted dovetail joints, solid brass drop handles or knobs, and lock-and-key mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces display distinct book-matched or swirl-patterned veneer grain, natural timber colour variations, and cast brass hardware with age-appropriate tarnish. Inspection of interior frame joinery and drawer construction typically reveals early 20th-century machining combined with hand-finishing.

A walnut wardrobe functions as a focal point in a primary bedroom or wide entrance hallway. Combining the dark, figured timber with neutral wall tones and contemporary textiles balances the historic wood grain with modern decorative schemes.

To preserve burr walnut veneers, apply a high-quality beeswax polish twice yearly along the direction of the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage and veneer lifting.
