This Art Deco wall light dates from 1930 and combines chrome and glass elements in a silver and yellow colour scheme. The fixture comprises a round stepped chrome wall mount and a curved wall sconce fitting that houses the spherical glass shade, connected via a swivel joint and held within a chrome frame. Signs of age include light wear to the chrome finish. The piece measures 23 cm high, 17 cm wide, and 22 cm deep, with a wall fitting diameter of 17.5 cm. Position this light fixture in a narrow wall space to provide accent lighting in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Its vintage character suits period homes and modern interiors seeking mid-century lighting accents.

FAQs

Art Deco wall lights feature geometric shapes, clean lines, and streamlined forms reflecting the industrial modernism of the early 20th century. Common design elements include stepped backplates, spherical or frosted glass shades, and polished metal fittings such as chrome or nickel.

Authentic Art Deco sconces were constructed using chrome-plated brass, nickel, polished bronze, and various forms of glass, including opaline, pressed glass, amber glass, and frosted shades.

Genuine period fixtures often feature heavy metal backplates with cast maker marks, period-correct threaded shade galleries, and stepped or angular geometric detailing. Original wiring or early ceramic lamp holders also indicate authentic period construction.

Art Deco sconces serve as functional accent lighting in hallway spaces, flanking bathroom mirrors, or positioning on either side of a bed or fireplace. The combination of chrome fittings and glass pairs well with minimalist, contemporary, and mid-century modern aesthetic schemes.

Glass shades should be cleaned using warm water and a mild detergent, ensuring they are completely dry before reattaching. Chrome or nickel metal elements should be gently wiped with a soft microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical abrasive polishes that can wear away vintage plating.
