Chinese Bronze Hexagonal Vessel, circa 1860

A bold and stylish Chinese hexagonal vessel, heavily cast in solid bronze and distinguished by its pleasing architectural form. The vessel is enhanced by a pair of decorative ring-handle mounts to either side.

The base is formed with a flat, spreading foot, above which the lower section is cast in relief with carp fish, one to each facet. The broad central section is richly decorated with an assortment of raised motifs, including exotic birds, shoals of carp and floating Chinese lanterns. The upper neck is ornamented with four bands of finely detailed flower heads, while the rim is plain and flat, echoing the form of the foot.

The vessel has developed an attractive green and brown patination consistent with age. It remains in good overall condition, with a few small holes at the base resulting from age and wear, as shown in the photographs.
