Chinese Export Silver Beaker Cup Royal Cypher Cornet Crest ? 1901 Dragons 89g

1900 - 1920
Description

A superb very interesting Chinese Export silver beaker cup. It is marked HC and tests as high grade silver, it dates to c1901 by the inscription to the base. Note 1900-1901 was the period of Boxer Rebellion, I do not know if there is a connection. It has been superbly designed being decorated with two dragons around a cartouche engraved with entwined initials possibly a Royal Cypher JRK of JKR above which is a Crown which looks like be that used by the Royal Family of Sweden, Belgium, Germany / Hanover, Prussia or Portugal (or another European Country). It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes distortions and repairs. It measures 3.5 inches (8.6cm) tall by almost 2.5 inches (6cm) across the rim and weighs 89 grams. A beautifully made very interesting piece.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinese export silver describes silver items produced in China from the late 18th century through the mid-20th century specifically for Western export. Craftsmen combined traditional Chinese chasing and repousse techniques with European decorative forms, such as tea sets, beakers, and presentation trophies.

Pieces were typically hand-hammered using high-purity silver, often testing close to or at sterling standard. High-relief repousse hammering and fine hand-chasing were the primary decorative techniques used to form intricate relief patterns.

Authentic pieces frequently bear artisan character marks alongside retailer pseudo-hallmarks or English-letter shop marks on the base. The weight, deep repousse execution, and characteristic hand-tooling on the interior surfaces also indicate authenticity.

These decorative objects work well placed on curated bookshelves, mantelpieces, or sideboard surfaces alongside leather-bound books and brass items. They add texture and historical interest to both classic and eclectic interior schemes.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent dirt build-up. If polishing is necessary, use a non-abrasive silver cream gently, avoiding excessive rubbing on raised relief areas to preserve natural oxidised highlights in the recessed details.
