Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

This Victorian Chesterfield sofa is a traditional three-seater piece in the English Country House style. The strong, solid frame supports generous seating upholstered in a neutral silver-grey velvet, complemented by deep-buttoning across the back and arms, elegant scroll ends, stud trim, turned timber front legs, and brass castors. It stands 66 cm high, 200 cm wide, and 80 cm deep, with a seat height of 36 cm. It suits both traditional and contemporary interiors, providing a comfortable and characterful addition to the space.

FAQs

A Victorian Chesterfield sofa is characterised by its equal-height arms and back, deep-buttoned tufted upholstery, and distinctive rolled arms. Developed during the nineteenth century, these pieces feature solid timber framing and traditional hand-tied sprung seating.

Traditional Victorian sofas were crafted using solid hardwood frames, such as beech or oak, alongside steel coil springs and natural fillings like horsehair and jute webbing. Upholstery frequently featured rich fabrics including silk velvet, woven wool, or heavy leather.

Authentic Victorian examples display hand-turned timber feet, often fitted with brass casters, and deep hand-tufted buttoning anchored through the frame. Examining the underside will typically reveal hand-stitched webbing and coil springs rather than modern synthetic foam or metal serpentine springs.

A Victorian Chesterfield sofa serves as a focal point in contemporary living spaces, contrasting effectively against minimalist architecture or neutral walls. Pairing the tactile fabric with contemporary geometric rugs or sleek side tables creates a balanced scheme between traditional and modern design elements.

Regular gentle vacuuming with a soft brush attachment prevents dust accumulation within the deep buttoning and velvet pile. Spills should be blotted immediately with a dry cloth without rubbing, and periodic professional dry cleaning is recommended for delicate textiles.
