Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Albert chain, named after Prince Albert in the nineteenth century, was originally designed to secure a pocket watch to a waistcoat using a T-bar and swivel clasps. Over time, these functional accessories evolved into versatile items of fine jewellery, frequently worn as necklaces today.

Chains from the 1920s were predominantly crafted from solid karat gold, such as 9ct or 15ct yellow gold, as well as sterling silver. Construction involved hand-formed or cast linksincluding trombone, curb, and love knot stylessecured with hallmarked T-bars and swivel fasteners.

Authentic period chains typically feature individual purity stamps on every link, along with complete hallmarks stamped on the T-bar and swivel clasps. Genuine examples show historic contact wear between links rather than modern machine finishing or uniform seam lines.

An Albert chain can be worn around the neck as a standalone collar or layered necklace with the T-bar displayed prominently at the front. It can also be wrapped around the wrist as a multi-strand bracelet or fitted with pendants attached directly to the swivel clasp.

Clean 9ct gold using warm water mixed with mild soap and a soft-bristled brush to remove accumulated oils and debris. Store the chain laid flat or suspended inside a fabric-lined jewellery box to prevent kinking, scratching, or link tension.
