Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pocket watches from around 1900 represent a period of high-precision mechanical horology, manufactured during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras. These timepieces typically feature stem-wound mechanical movements housed in metal protective cases.

Antique pocket watches frequently utilised cases made from sterling silver, silver gilt, or gold, protecting internal brass and steel movements. Dials were commonly finished with fired white enamel featuring dark-toned numerals and metal hands.

Authentic period pieces usually bear hallmarks inside the case back denoting metal purity, assay location, and maker marks. Mechanical movements are generally engraved with the manufacturer name and serial numbers corresponding to production archives.

An antique pocket watch can be worn attached to a waistcoat with an Albert chain or displayed upright on a dedicated desk stand under a glass cloche as a decorative desk accessory.

Store the watch away from damp conditions and strong magnetic fields, arranging a professional movement service every three to five years. Clean silver cases using a dry microfibre cloth, keeping liquid polishing compounds away from the dial and movement.
