We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mid-19th century pollard oak sideboard is a Victorian dining room storage piece made using timber from pollarded oak trees, known for its distinctive swirling grain. These sideboards typically feature a breakfront top, twin pedestal cupboards, and solid architectural mouldings.

These sideboards feature thick pollard oak veneers laid over solid oak or pine framework, accented with hand-carved corbels and mouldings. Drawers from this period are traditionally constructed with hand-cut dovetail joints and solid drawer linings.

Authentic pieces exhibit dense burr-like wood grain patterns, hand-finished joinery, and heavy, solid construction. Look for period details such as hand-cut dovetails, original lock mechanisms, and evidence of historic patination across the surfaces.

Position the sideboard as a focal point along a dining room or hallway wall, balancing its substantial proportions with modern wall art, simple ceramic vessels, or table lamps placed on the top surface.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct radiators and prolonged sunlight to prevent the timber from drying or fading.
