Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian painted furniture, produced between 1901 and 1910, often draws inspiration from earlier Georgian and Neoclassical designs. It frequently incorporates lighter colour palettes, subtle geometric panel work, refined moulding details, and functional drawer configurations designed for domestic spaces.

These chests were commonly constructed using softwoods such as pine or painted hardwoods. Drawer linings were usually made from oak or pine with hand-cut dovetail joints, complemented by brass handles, drop pulls, or turned wood knobs.

Authenticity is indicated by historical joinery methods, including hand-cut dovetails, timber back panels with original fixings, and natural wear patterns along drawer runners. Painted surfaces should display age-appropriate craquelure, micro-chipping, or secondary layers applied over historical timber.

A painted chest serves as functional storage in a bedroom, hallway, or living area. It pairs well alongside modern artwork, neutral wall tones, and structural table lamps to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to prevent scratch marks. Avoid abrasive chemical cleaners, solvents, or excess water, and apply a clear microcrystalline wax sparingly to preserve the painted finish.
