Central brass key escutcheons adorn the drawers, which are arranged in two rows. The commode measures 83 cm high, 105 cm wide, and 52 cm deep. In a modern interior, this chest serves as a functional storage item in a bedroom, living room, or hallway. The classic silhouette integrates easily into traditional or transitional home decor schemes.

FAQs

French Rococo furniture originated in the early 18th century under King Louis XV and is characterised by asymmetrical curves, serpentine fronts, cabriole legs, and ornate surface moulding or hardware.

Carcase construction typically utilised solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood, which were then sealed, painted with milk or mineral pigments, and fitted with cast brass key escutcheons or handles.

Appraisers examine timber shrinkages, hand-sawn dovetail joints, oxidation on unpainted wood undersides, original brass hardware fitting holes, and authentic wear patterns through layers of paint.

A dark painted commode functions well as a focal storage piece in an entryway, living room, or bedroom, contrasting against light neutral walls and contemporary artwork.

Clean painted surfaces using a dry or slightly dampened soft microfibre cloth, avoiding abrasive chemicals, liquid polishes, or excessive moisture that can lift historical paint layers.
