This antique Persian Hamadan rug from 1910 displays a hand-knotted wool construction featuring natural vegetable dyes in terracotta, blue, and ivory. The central stepped medallion is surrounded by geometric borders, floral spandrels, and various tribal motifs. Visible details include all-over wear and minor losses to the ends, indicating age. The piece measures 1 cm high, 173 cm wide, and 103 cm deep. Position this rug on a floor in a living room, study, or hallway to bring warmth and a traditional tribal style to an interior space. The rectangular layout works well placed beneath coffee tables, beside a bed, or as a distinct centrepiece in an entryway.

Hamadan rugs originate from the city of Hamadan and surrounding villages in western Iran, characterised by geometric medallion patterns, single-warp weaves, and vibrant vegetable-dyed wool.

These rugs are hand-woven using hand-spun wool pile knotting over a cotton or wool foundation warp and weft structure.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical hand-knotted backs, subtle colour variations known as abrash from natural dye batches, and classic geometric or stepped medallion motifs.

A hand-woven tribal rug anchors modern furniture by introducing rich texture, geometric balance, and warm colour tones to contemporary spaces.

Vacuum regularly using suction only without a rotating beater bar, rotate periodically to ensure even wear, and spot clean with neutral wool detergent and water.
