This set of six Spode Copelands dessert plates originates from the 1950 period, following Victorian Aesthetic styles. Formed from white bone china with a glossy glaze, the tableware displays scalloped fluted rims edged in bright gold, alongside hand-painted central botanical motifs showing delicate grasses and colourful butterflies with orange and purple markings. Each round plate measures 20 cm in diameter and sits on a flat base. Ideal for everyday dining or formal tea services, these pieces bring an English Country House character to the table. They function well displayed on a dining room sideboard top or stored in a glass-fronted cabinet when not in use. The glazed white ceramic wipes clean with a damp cloth after service, preserving the painted decoration and gilded borders for future family gatherings and dinner parties.

Spode and Copeland produced fine bone china throughout the nineteenth century, establishing standards for translucency and durability. Botanical transfer prints featuring insects, wild grasses, and fauna became prominent decorative themes for English tableware during the Victorian era.

These pieces were crafted from fine bone china, utilizing ceramic transfer printing for the central outline which was often hand-tinted before glazing. Scalloped rims were finished with hand-applied liquid gold or gold leaf gilding.

Authentic items feature impressed or printed manufacturer backstamps on the reverse, such as Copeland Spode or W.T. Copeland. Genuine bone china also demonstrates translucency when held up to a bright light source.

Plates can be mounted on a wall using spring wire plate hangers to create an accent gallery wall. They can also be displayed on stands inside a glazed cabinet, atop a sideboard, or used as layered charger plates on a dining table.

Gilded bone china should be washed exclusively by hand using warm water and a mild liquid soap with a soft sponge. Automatic dishwashers and microwaves must be avoided, as heat and abrasive detergents erode gold rims over time.
