Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sterling silver christening mugs emerged as traditional commemorative gifts in Britain, symbolising long-term value and good wishes for a childs future. During the George V era in the 1920s, silversmiths produced classic shapes drawing on traditional Georgian and Victorian hollowware forms.

These mugs were crafted from sterling silver, containing 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural rigidity. Construction involved spinning or hand-raising the body on a lathe, soldering a cast scroll handle, and finishing with a stepped circular base rim.

Authenticity is verified by official British hallmarks stamped into the metal body. Look for the lion passant indicating sterling quality, an assay office symbol such as the leopards head for London or anchor for Birmingham, a year date letter, and the makers mark.

A sterling silver christening mug can be incorporated into interior styling as a decorative accent on a bookshelf, sideboard, or desk tray. It functions effectively when paired with leather-bound books, glassware, or displayed individually.

Clean sterling silver periodically using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish to remove tarnish oxidisation. Store the piece in a dry environment wrapped in acid-free tissue paper or anti-tarnish cloth to prevent environmental darkening.
