Description

Tobacco bags are extremely rare within all the Persian tribes and over many years of trading, I've only ever come across a few, mainly from the Afshar and Khamseh Confederacy tribes. As the name implies, they were specifically used for containing tobacco and a pipe.

This magnificent tobacco bag was made by Baluch tribes in western Afghanistan at the end of the 19th century and is complete with braided tassels. The wool is soft and lustrous, as might be expected from the mountain sheep of the Baluch nomads. A truly rare and unusual weaving.
