Early 20th Century English Gothic Revival Floor Lam

1900 - 1920
Description

Early 20th Century English Gothic Revival Floor Lamp

A striking English Gothic Revival floor lamp dating to circa 1910, combining rich period character with elegant architectural detailing.

The lamp stands on a substantial stepped hardwood base, supporting a finely fluted bronze stem with decorative Gothic-inspired detailing. It is finished with an opaline glass shade, whose soft translucency provides a pleasing contrast to the naturally aged bronze and timber.

With its impressive proportions and beautifully developed patina, this is a highly decorative period lighting piece, equally suited to a traditional interior or as a statement feature within a more contemporary setting.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Gothic Revival lighting draws inspiration from medieval architecture, frequently incorporating clustered columns, pointed arches, and architectural mouldings into standard lamps and torcheres.

These pieces were typically crafted using dense hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, often fitted with brass electrical mountings and glass shades.

Authentic examples feature traditional joinery, carved architectural details such as step-moulded bases or clustered column shafts, and age-consistent surface patina on wood and metal components.

Position the lamp in an empty corner or beside a reading armchair to provide functional uplighting while adding an architectural silhouette to contemporary or classic spaces.

Dust the wooden column regularly with a soft dry cloth, apply high-quality beeswax sparingly along the wood grain, and ensure all electrical wiring is inspected by a qualified professional.
