The Chelsea Bijouterie Ltd has dated this piece to the 1960s.
5mm pearls and an ornate diamond and pearl floral clasp crafted in 9ct white gold.

Dating from 1962, this impressive necklace is formed from two long strands of generously sized cultured pearls. The pearls have a beautiful silver-ivory colour with a subtle pink overtone and deep, lustrous sheen. Their unusually large size gives the necklace wonderful presence, while the double-strand design creates a particularly luxurious appearance when worn.

Weighing an impressive 150 grams, this is a remarkably substantial pearl necklace. The weight and generous 9–9.5mm pearls give it a feeling of quality that is immediately apparent when handled and worn.

The centrepiece is the beautiful 22mm floral cluster clasp, fashioned in 9ct white gold and decorated with pearls and sparkling diamonds. Rather than being merely functional, the clasp is an attractive jewel in its own right and can be worn either traditionally at the back or brought around to the front or side as a decorative feature.

The reverse of the clasp carries full British hallmarks for 9ct gold, London 1962, together with the maker's initials LGH. It fastens with a secure push mechanism and is additionally fitted with a safety clip.

At approximately 26 inches (66cm) overall, this is also a particularly versatile length. The two strands measure approximately 24½ and 25½ inches, allowing them to fall naturally one below the other. As the photographs illustrate, the necklace has a wonderfully elegant drape and considerable impact without appearing overly formal.

The classic combination of large cultured pearls, diamonds and white gold makes this a wonderful choice for a wedding or special occasion, while its timeless 1960s styling makes it equally beautiful worn with a simple contemporary outfit. It would make a particularly memorable bridal necklace, anniversary present or special gift, and is a piece that could readily become a family heirloom.
