Silver Longines Full Hunter Pocket Watch, 1883

19th century
Description

Silver Longines full hunter pocket watch, 1883.

The watch has a good quality stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Longines name and logo, and also the name Baume, the importers of the watch. It is all protected by an inner hinged cover which has a small indentation.

The watch measures 49mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for London 1883, with the mark AB for Arthur Baume of Baume & Co. Engine turned detail to both the front and back, still nice and crisp. There is the merest hint of unevenness to the front cover, and two pin prick marks to the back but overall, very acceptable.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition (some natural light reflection showing in the front photos).

The dial is in lovely condition with lever-set blued-steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A full hunter pocket watch features a protective metal cover that completely encloses the watch face and opens via an integrated spring mechanism when the crown is depressed.

Victorian pocket watches commonly feature silver or gold casing, vitreous enamel dials, brass mechanical movements, and glass crystals over the hands.

Authenticity is verified through official hallmark stamps inside the case lids, matching serial numbers on the movement and case, and period-appropriate maker hallmarks on the dial.

An antique pocket watch can be worn using a traditional silver fob chain attached to a waistcoat or displayed on a specialized pocket watch stand on a desk or mantelpiece.

Store the watch in a dry environment, clean the silver case gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoid exposure to moisture, and have the mechanical movement serviced regularly by a horologist.
