Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lobster picks emerged during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as specialised dining utensils designed for extracting meat from crustacean shells. They featured dual-ended designs with slender tines at one end and a flat scoop or paddle at the other, reflecting the formal dining customs of the early twentieth century.

High-grade British flatware from the George V period was primarily crafted from sterling silver, meeting the standard of 925 parts per thousand pure silver. These sets were frequently presented in fitted velvet- or silk-lined wooden presentation boxes to prevent scratching and tarnishing.

Authentic British pieces bear a full set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the monarchs mark, the lion passant for sterling silver, an assay office symbol (such as a leopards head for London or an anchor for Birmingham), a makers mark, and a specific date letter corresponding to the year of manufacture.

Antique silver dining accessories can be incorporated into modern dinner party table settings, arranged alongside contemporary glassware and linen to create a layered aesthetic. Alternatively, cased sets can be displayed open inside glass cabinets or on dining room sideboards as historic table ornaments.

Sterling silver should be washed by hand in warm water with mild detergent and dried immediately with a soft cloth. Tarnishing or oxidisation should be removed gently using a specialized silver polishing cloth or cream, avoiding abrasive cleaners that might wear down surface details and hallmarks.
