This pair of French Belle Epoque table lamps originates from around 1910, rendered in cut crystal, gilt bronze, and brass. Each lamp takes the shape of a pineapple with a diamond-cut clear crystal body, mounted on a bold, multi-stepped square base with polished gold tones, accented by an ornate crown of gilt leaf finials and turned brass hardware. Brown fabric cords connect to attached white plugs. The pair measures 49.5 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. They suit placement upon a living room sideboard top, console table, or hallway chest as accent lighting in a traditional or eclectic interior.

FAQs

The pineapple motif has historically symbolised hospitality, wealth, and welcome since the 18th century, becoming a recurring decorative element in French lighting design during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Lamps from this era were commonly crafted using diamond-cut crystal or heavy lead glass for the central body, paired with cast gilt bronze or brass for the foliage leaves, stem, and stepped base.

Authentic period pieces feature substantial weight from solid cast metal fittings, detailed hand-chased foliage work, hand-cut glass facets, and natural patination or mild oxidisation to the gilded surface.

Place them symmetrically on a dining room sideboard, hall console, or matching bedside tables, paired with neutral silk or linen shades to balance the metallic detail and crystalline texture.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and clean the glass body gently using a damp cloth, taking care not to apply liquid polishes or abrasive chemicals to the gilded metal components.
