This mid 18th century Georgian ladies dressing table and writing desk is fashioned from warm brown mahogany with a flame mahogany veneer and polished finish. The rectangular top rests above a configuration of seven small drawers and a recessed central kneehole cupboard enclosed by a single wooden door. Brass swan-neck handles with ornate backplates are fitted to every drawer, complemented by a keyhole escutcheon on the central upper drawer and a key in the cupboard door lock. Ogee bracket feet support the structure at the base, displaying shaped cutouts along their lower edges. Light repairs, polishing, and waxing have been undertaken while retaining the original handles and feet, leaving the surfaces with a faded appearance throughout. Measuring 77 cm high, 76.5 cm wide, and 51 cm deep, with a kneehole height of 57.5 cm, the item offers compact proportions. Appropriate for placement in a bedroom or a study, this traditional English country house furnishing serves practically as a dedicated vanity workspace or a writing desk. The numerous drawers provide practical organisation for personal items and stationery, while the central cupboard conceals additional storage space. Placed against a wall in a traditional interior, the piece functions as a workspace or a dressing station.

Originating in the early eighteenth century, a Georgian kneehole table is characterised by a central recess for seating or legroom, flanked by sets of vertical drawers and often featuring a small cupboard built into the back of the kneehole area.

Cabinetmakers utilised flame mahogany veneers over solid pine or oak carcasses, accented by hand-cast brass swan-neck handles, escutcheons, and hand-cut dovetail joints.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, irregular tool marks on unfinished backs or undersides, cast brass hardware with natural oxidisation, and secondary timber like pine or oak in the drawer linings.

Position the piece as a statement writing desk in a study or bedroom, pairing it with contemporary lighting, a modern chair, or minimalist artwork to create a balanced, layered aesthetic.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and radiators to prevent cracking or fading, dust regularly with a soft cloth, and apply natural beeswax polish periodically to maintain the grain lustre.
